Tech layoffs in 2026 so far

We've counted 93K people laid off in 98 major tech layoffs this year, against 142K in all of 2025. The biggest single cut so far is Amazon, at 16,000 jobs. Most of these companies were making money when they cut. That's what stands out about this year.

39%of the people laid off this year worked at companies that tied the cut to AI, whether that meant replacing work with it, moving the money into it, or the vaguer “AI-driven efficiency.” We only count it when the company or credible reporting said so, which means the real share is probably higher.

You can filter the table below by year, industry or company. The feed at the top catches new announcements within the hour. Every entry names its source, and we're adding links to the older ones as we go. If your own employer shows up here, the warning signs checklist and the layoff risk calculator will help you figure out what to do next.

All tracked events

Counts reflect figures reported at announcement; companies sometimes revise them. The AI badge marks events where the company or credible reporting tied the cut to AI, substitution, reallocation, or AI-driven efficiency.

Tech layoff tracker FAQ

What is a tech layoff tracker?

It's a running list of layoffs at tech companies: who cut, when, how many people, and why. Ours does two things most lists don't. We scan the news every hour for new layoff announcements, and we only mark a cut as AI-related when the company itself or solid reporting said so.

How many tech layoffs have there been in 2026?

By our count, 92,807 people have lost jobs in 98 major tech layoffs so far in 2026, compared with 141,868 in all of 2025. That's about 65% of last year's total. Layoffs.fyi has a bigger number (128,536 people at 299 companies as of 2026-09-10) because it counts hundreds of smaller companies we leave out. We only include major layoffs we can source one by one. The biggest single cut this year in our data is Amazon, at 16,000 jobs.

Which companies announced layoffs most recently?

The latest we've added are Workday, Expedia Group, Oracle, BBC. The news feed at the top of this page picks up new announcements within about an hour, but we check each one before it goes into the tracker, and nothing counts toward our totals until then.

How many layoffs are caused by AI?

That's the hard part. We only tag a layoff as AI-related when the company said so or credible reporting made the link, so our number is on the low side. The stats above show it both ways, by people and by number of layoffs. Looser counts blame AI for a bigger share.

How often is this layoff tracker updated?

The news scan runs every hour. The tracker itself, which we check by hand, gets new entries every week. Every entry names its source, and we're adding links to the older ones as we go.

We track major announced layoffs, not every one. Industry-wide totals are bigger (layoffs.fyi counted about 264,000 tech layoffs in 2023) because they include hundreds of smaller companies. Our rules are on the methodology page.
